Synopsis 140 minutes:
The Volunteers: To the War is a 2023 Chinese historical war film directed by Chen Kaige that depicts the early stages of the Korean War, specifically the decision to send the Chinese People's Volunteer Army into North Korea in October 1950 to counter U.S. provocation on the Sino-North Korean border. The film covers the first and second battles of the war, highlighting the bravery and sacrifice of the Chinese soldiers in the face of a heavily armed adversary, as well as China's emergence on the international diplomatic stage at the United Nations.
